Knee Pain Treatment in Halifax
Your Knee Hurts for a Reason. We Find Out Why.
Knee pain affects people of all ages — from active athletes to desk workers to retirees. The knee is a complex joint influenced by what’s happening above and below it: the hip, the ankle, and everything in between.
At Revital Wellness, we assess the full movement chain to identify the true source of your pain and build a plan that actually resolves it.
What’s Causing Your Knee Pain?
Knee pain is one of the most common complaints we see — and one of the most mismanaged. The right treatment depends entirely on the right diagnosis. Here are the conditions we treat most frequently:
Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runner’s Knee)
Pain around or behind the kneecap, typically worsened by stairs, squatting, or prolonged sitting. Usually driven by poor patellar tracking, weak hip muscles, and movement dysfunction.
IT Band Syndrome
A common overuse injury in runners and cyclists. The iliotibial band becomes tight and inflamed where it crosses the outer knee, causing a sharp or burning pain on the outside of the joint.
Meniscus Injury
The menisci are the cartilage shock absorbers of the knee. Tears — from twisting injuries or gradual degeneration — cause pain, swelling, stiffness, and sometimes locking of the joint.
Ligament Sprains (MCL, LCL, ACL)
Knee ligament injuries range from mild sprains to complete tears. Common in contact sports and sudden direction changes. Treatment depends heavily on the severity and ligament involved.
Osteoarthritis
Gradual wear of the knee cartilage causing pain, stiffness, and swelling — especially in the morning or after activity. Highly manageable with the right combination of manual therapy and exercise.
Patellar Tendinopathy (Jumper’s Knee)
Degeneration of the patellar tendon below the kneecap, common in jumping and sprinting athletes. Causes pain at the front of the knee that worsens with activity.
Pes Anserine Bursitis
Inflammation of the bursa on the inner side of the knee, just below the joint. Often seen in runners and people with osteoarthritis. Causes medial knee pain and tenderness.
How We Treat This at Revital Wellness
The advantage of Revital Wellness is a full team under one roof — your care is coordinated across all disciplines from day one.
Chiropractic
Our chiropractor assesses the full kinetic chain — lumbar spine, hip, knee, and ankle — to identify the mechanical dysfunctions loading the knee. Joint mobilization, soft tissue therapy, and movement correction address the upstream causes that keep the knee from healing.
Patellofemoral syndrome, IT band syndrome, postural knee stress, hip and lumbar contributors to knee pain.
Physiotherapy
Our physiotherapists are the primary lead on most knee conditions. A detailed biomechanical assessment guides a progressive rehab program targeting strength, stability, and movement patterns. Dry needling and manual therapy are integrated as needed.
Meniscus injuries, ligament sprains, post-surgical rehab, osteoarthritis, tendinopathy, runner’s knee.
Tight hip flexors, IT band, and calf muscles chronically load the knee and impair recovery. Targeted massage therapy releases these structures, reduces joint inflammation, and improves the effectiveness of rehabilitation.
IT band tension, muscle tightness contributing to knee loading, post-injury recovery, osteoarthritis management.
Acupuncture reduces knee joint inflammation, calms pain sensitization, and supports tissue healing. Particularly effective for osteoarthritis, chronic tendinopathy, and patients managing
pain alongside active rehabilitation.
Knee osteoarthritis, patellar tendinopathy, chronic knee pain, post-surgical recovery, inflammation management.

Comprehensive Assessment
A full biomechanical assessment of the knee, hip, and lower limb movement chain. We identify the structural and functional factors driving your pain before recommending anything.

We build the most effective combination of care based on your specific presentation. You’ll know exactly what we’re treating, why, and what the timeline looks like.
✔ Step 3

Our goal is full return to activity — not indefinite pain management.

Frequently Asked Questions About Knee Pain Treatment in Halifax
Should I rest my knee or keep moving?
It depends on the cause. Some knee conditions respond well to relative rest; others — like patellofemoral syndrome and osteoarthritis — actually worsen with inactivity. The right answer comes from a proper assessment. We’ll tell you exactly what loading your knee can handle and build a progressive plan around it.
Can physiotherapy help with knee osteoarthritis?
Yes — significantly. Exercise and manual therapy are among the most evidence-supported treatments for knee OA. Strengthening the muscles around the knee, improving movement patterns, and reducing inflammation can dramatically reduce pain and improve function without surgery.
How long will my knee take to recover?
Acute sprains and strains often resolve in 6-10 sessions with the right treatment. Chronic conditions like osteoarthritis or tendinopathy require ongoing management. Post-surgical rehab timelines depend on the procedure. We’ll give you a realistic expectation after your assessment.
Do you direct bill insurance for knee pain treatment?
Yes. We direct bill most major insurance providers for chiropractic, physiotherapy, massage therapy, and acupuncture. Bring your insurance card to your first appointment.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed. Book directly for any discipline. If your insurance requires a referral for reimbursement, check your plan — but you can walk in without one.
